Tooth Filling Cost in Dubai – Understanding Your Options

Tooth fillings help make up for all that’s lost in the cavities of your teeth. Once all the decayed pulp and portions have been removed, through irrigation, drilling and/or air pressure, a dentist would use a filling to close the cavity so that the tooth can continue to function normally.

Tooth fillings are not all the same and there are many options available for you to choose from. Some of these are for purely cosmetic reasons while others are a more economical choice. But all these types of filling are functional. Tooth filling choices in Dubai are plenty and they come at different price tags as well.

Tooth fillings have been a part of human history for over 1000’s of years. In the 19th century, metal fillings were popular. An amalgam of mercury, silver, tin, zinc and copper was widely used and is still a popular option among dentists. These days you can choose from several types of fillings such as gold, silver, porcelain, composite and even tooth coloured plastic. The choices are also made based on your dental history.

There are several advantages and disadvantages to each type of filling. Let’s have a look at two of the most popular types of tooth filling choices in Dubai, composite and Amalgam.

Amalgam fillings are generally more durable. They are best when used in your molars as those are the teeth that receive the most physical shock among all your teeth. These fillings also last a lot longer than other fillings which makes a repeat visit to the dentist less likely. However, Amalgam fillings may require the dentist to remove more healthy tooth structure to accommodate for these fillings as they do not bond with your teeth. Amalgam fillings also contain mercury. Although the amounts are minute and mostly harmless, it’s still a problem for those with allergies to such metals.

Composite fillings on the other hand are more expensive than amalgam fillings. They are however less noticeable in the mouth as they have a colour like that of human teeth. Composite fillings are also capable of bonding with your teeth. This means your tooth can be easily filled with composite filling without the need to remove excess tooth structure. Composite fillings are prone to shrinkage when they harden. This could happen over time and leads to gaps in teeth that could be filled with materials that can foster bacteria and start an infection all over again. This means you may need to visit your dentist more often than if you simply went with an amalgam filling.
